Guest Post: The crazy things I raise my eyebrows at
Hi so this is not your usual Sharms. It is just a friend popping in to chip in her 2 cents in the form of a guest post. I’ve chosen to talk about eyebrows (in relation to makeup and beauty just like the rest of the blog) because it is a subject that is very dear to my heart.
If you’ve seen enough eyebrow catastrophes (as well as eyebrows that are almost perfectly shaped), you’ll probably agree that they can make or break a face. It’s kind of a weirdly dicey issue… you want to make them look perfect but realistic, precise but not drawn on and achieve an arch without getting that permanently surprised look.
Personally, I get my eyebrows threaded and have been doing so consistently for a bit over a year. It’s higher on the pain scale than waxing (I hear lol..I wouldn’t know because I’ve never had them waxed) but I feel like I prefer it to tweezing. In my opinion tweezing just makes you suffer longer unnecessarily) Threading is a South Asian method which is really precise because the hairs are removed right from the roots, with a single antibacterial thread. It can hurt, but the hair grows back slower, and the 4-6 weeks you enjoy without sitting in that chair are quite priceless… so consider it J (I got mine done last on May20, I’ve tidied them up on my own just once since then.. so I’m pushing a month!)
Whichever way you choose to get your eyebrows done, please go to a reputable place. Checking out the eyebrows of the threader/waxer is also a good move. If she looks like this then you might probablyyyy need to let that one go. For my sake…
Anywayy I have compiled a list of some the eyebrows-faux pas I have unfortunately witnessed… and so has Sharms!
The REDBROW
This one is one of the most confusing for me… it just throws me off. There is this auburn/winishh soft pencil that women sometimes use on their eyebrows… though they usually clearly have black hair and brown skin like mine.. (confused face).. I don’t really get it and I feel like it’s almost a little mean cos all it’s done is scare me. My face>> 0_o
Here’s me sporting the REDBROW =D
The JETBLACK brow
A brow pencil should never really be absolutely black, no matter how dark haired you are. It should be a shade of brown and only used to shade in spots where you actually need it. I use this eyebrow tool from MAC and it’s my savior. I got it in STUD I think which is a dark brown. You can find a bunch of really good products for grooming brows which might even be a lot cheaper…
This is me with the Jetblack brow… lol
The Eyebrows which kiss your baby hair
Okayy, so sometimes we might need to extend our brows a bit, for a variety of reasons. Maybe the hair there is kinda sparse and we need to fill it in or we need to make one or the other longer so that they look more or less identical. Then in walks the woman who has taken this a bit too literally or taken it a bit tooooo far and the tips of her eyebrows are making out with her hairline….lol
:-*
Special mentions
The *too high* arch
Alright, it’s been said: arching your brow can give you a cheap facelift. Not all arching is good arching though… so keep it moderate unless you want to look like you’re saying ‘Huh’ all the time… don’t get mad when people start repeating what they said, even though you didn’t ask.. lol
The tightrope brow
I know there are some who prefer a thinner brow, but going too thin is kind of…never good. I personally like to keep them thick, like above average thick, but there’s no rule which says you have to do this… the pencil thin look can be pretty harsh so watch it and let your threader/waxer/self know when enough hair has been taken off..
Shaving off the brows and drawing in your own
So, I am yet to see someone who has done this and pulled it off well. I know that for most models, the outer half of their brows is shaved off so the makeup artists can have more variety in styling. If you want to do that… it could turn out okay, but shaving the entire thing off is never a good idea. Especially when they start growing back.. we can see your err..stubble..
Eyebrow tattoos and weaves
Yes... there is weave for eyebrows now. Not sure how they do it, but you can watch this video for more info LOL… I think it’s borderline ridiculous and can’t imagine how it could possibly look realistic/beautiful but hey… J
Tattooing on an eyebrow has been a known method for a while and I know that some people have been successful at it… but I still don’t think ink will ever look like hair...but I mean again, to each his own J Just remember: it’s permanent!
Okay so it’s comical and all, the main reason I put up photos of myself looking like a fool, is to show how ridiculous it can look when women do these things... lol. I haven’t been able to take anybody seriously while they were walking around like that… I’m sure you can’t blame me :]
Eyebrows are such a small part of the face and yet they carry so much weight. The whole idea behind arching is to expose your brow bone so your brows frame your face in an attractive way…
I hope this has been helpful! I’m addicted to Things I Love; I check it every day so I’m happy I got to Guest Post
